Because he's a white Christian. Slap a beard on him and have him outside a mosque with blood on his hands, and we'd have a different -- and altogether more hysterical -- reaction, wouldn't we?

See, this story was all about how Muslims are adjusting, or not, to Canadian society. Whereas this horrible story from Kitimat is all about how unbalanced this one individual was.
Two stories where the facts are almost the same -- father murders daughter, religious belief is the immediate factor blamed in both cases. But in one case we indicted a whole religion and culture (because we were already prepared to anyway) while the other religion and culture (North American white Christianity) escapes more or less unscathed.
Way to go, everyone.

As a child my family attended both of the churches in Kitimat that Blair Donnelly attended, the Pentecostal Church and the Alliance.
The evangelical church in Canada is full of dangerous lunatics - exactly the sort of person that the western media whips up fear about, as long as the person in question is a muslim.
Stephen Harper and Stockwell Day are both part of it.

In the Donnelly case - it was a 'heat of the moment' thing. Completely unexpected, and 'out of the blue'.
You have - threatening your daughter, and later killing her - for religious believes
Vs.
Going temporarily insane, due to stress - and believing God was telling you to kill your daughter.
This isn't to say that I believe what the jury chose was right, in either case (I'll keep my opinions on that part to myseld), only that the situations are not completely the same except for 'muslim vs christian' or any other stereotyping you see there. They were DIFFERENT SITUATIONS.
It's like the difference between first degree and second degree murder - premeditation.
I'm not saying that he did, I'm using it as an example.
The fact that one father was had been said to have threatenned his daughter before hand, where as the other did not - is the deciding factor.
