Bolton Strikes!

Some of you may remember what Bush said when he named his new ambassador to the United Nations:
Bush said the job at the United Nations was "too important to leave vacant any longer, especially during a war and a vital debate about U.N. reform."
Ah, excellent point. The UN is in need of reform, most especially reform of the antiquated Security Council, which still looks like it was made in 1945. (Which it was, of course.) So Bolton's first job should be working on expanding the Security Council, right?

Ha! Just kidding, India, Japan, Germany, Brazil!
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - China and the United States have agreed to work together to defeat plans to expand the prestigious U.N. Security Council at this time, China's U.N. ambassador said on Thursday.

The agreement came in a brief meeting with John Bolton, the George W. Bush administration's new ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Wang Guangya told reporters.
Great work, John. How exactly does America intend to build a strong relationship with India if it keeps slapping it down like this?

“The UN Charter is fundamentally a political, not a legal document. On finances it amounts to little more than an ‘agreement to agree.’”
