Climate scientists fear that this week’s G8 talks in Gleneagles, Scotland, will not hear the truth about the “clear and present danger” of climate change.
In 2004, UK prime minister Tony Blair said that action to halt climate change would be a top priority, along with poverty in Africa, for the UK's chairmanship of the G8 in 2005. To update politicians, he called a conference of scientists in February 2005 to discuss the risks of “dangerous” climate change and how to prevent it happening.
July 6th:
ST. JOHN'S, Nfld. (CP) - Ocean temperatures in the North Atlantic hit an all-time high last year, raising concerns about the effects of global warming on one of the most sensitive and productive ecosystems in the world....
The ocean surface about seven kilometres off St. John's, which ranged from slightly less than 0 C in February to 15 C in August, averaged 1.1 C above normal, the highest in the 59 years the department has been compiling records.

"The Kyoto treaty would have wrecked our economy, if I can be blunt," [Bush] said, promising to keep rejecting any similar deals in the future.
"If this looks like Kyoto, the answer is no," he said.
Good old dependable George. Faced with a clear and present threat to his country, his first instinct is to protect business.
