It's A Sad Day

When the BBC is being outdone by CNN.

On the BBC's World Report, they ended with a story about rising anti-semitism in Russia. Now, this is an important story that the west should be paying more attention to, especially given the history of anti-semitism in Russia. However, the BBC idiotically spoke of Russia's anti-semitic policies during the USSR era, not bothering to mention that all religions were persecuted during the Communist reign. Jews may have been particularly persecuted (I don't know, but would be willing to bet) but it was within the generally atheistic context of Soviet rule.

Meanwhile, one of the bobbleheads on CNN, speaking to a former US ambassador on the matter of North Korea, said offhandedly that the "military option" was on the table with regards to Pyongyang. The ambassador slapped her down immediately, saying that should so much as an errant bomb fall on North Korea, several million people in Seoul would die within minutes. There is no military option in the Korean context, unless we're willing to countenance the certain deaths of millions to prevent NK from getting in the same nuclear game we already play.

Anyway, the contrast between CNN and the beeb on this particular evening was rather startling.
