In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg, from the BBC. It's a weekly panel discussion with various experts on every kind of topic, from neuroscience to the baroque to the Great Fire of London. It's very cool.
I'll be interested in seeing what other people recommend. In Our Time sounds good.
Two I recommend highly:
The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe
and Dan Savage's Savage Lovecast.
The SGU is "a weekly Science podcast produced by the New England Skeptical Society (NESS) in association with the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) : discussing the latest news and topics from the world of the paranormal, fringe science, and controversial claims from a scientific point of view."
It's run by amateurs (i.e., media is not their day jobs, the host is a neurologist at Yale), but still very well produced. It's entertaining, funny, and sweet in a geeky sort of way. They discuss both mainstream science issues (biology and cosmology get a lot of play) as well as debunk pseudoscience, alt-med, UFOs, etc. I started listening to it on a lark and got incredibly hooked.
The Savage Lovecast is the podcast version of Dan Savage's sex advice column. People call in and leave questions instead of writing. Sometimes he calls them back and they chat. It's very good, and if you like his column (and how can you not?), you'll like this.
I like In Our Time too. The BBC also has Thinking Allowed, which is social science oriented, and More or Less, which looks at statistics. I also listen to Great Lives if I think I have any interest in the person they are talking about.
I also like Think from KERA, and On Point from WBUR. On a completely different note, if you like Daniel Pinkwater's stories, there is now the Pinkwater Podcast at his site.
