Kill it, you bastards, kill it

So now on Newsworld I'm watching as the Liberals and NDP can't agree over a) whether the government should fall, but more b) who is going to be blamed/credited with killing the damn thing.

The Liberals don't actually want an election with the dismal, sucking abyss that is their fortunes in Quebec lately. But they also don't want to be seen supporting the government. So they're proposing a motion that they think the NDP will vote in line with the government on, in order to make it look like the NDP are supporting Harper.

Of course, it seems to have not occurred to the Liberals that you might not want to put your electoral future in the hands of the NDP. We, uh, don't exactly see your and our interests as the same.

It seems, according to the CBC, that Dion is getting fantastically bad advice. Most of the bloggers on the front of the Liblogs page seem to want to see the government fall, and outside of Quebec I don't see the Party doing all that badly -- nor do the actual party members seem to be afraid. And Dion himself seems to think he can win in a stand-up fight.

Maybe, as a branded NDP blogger, this is going to sound like misdirection. But I think the Liberals should go for it. Kill the Parliament, run in the election, and win the damn thing.

Somehow, I doubt that's what's going to happen.

Dion just proposed an amendment which forces the Dippers to accept an end to the Kandahar mission in 2009 with no benchmarks. Also the Dippers will have to swallow the repeal of taxes on income trusts and large corporate tax reductions.

I am biting my tongue on this one.

Reality check - the libs and Dion just propped up the Harper govt. That's the bottom line.
I thought Dion wanted to make parliament work, mushroom. I guess he does for the liberal party, but not for Canadians.
Dion is not a leader.

Anyway, perhaps the libs would like to form a coalition with the NDP, and quit playing political games that are only paid attention attention by political junkies like us.
Now that would be standing up for majority of Canadians.

Jan,

Why don't you go to liblogs and start making this offer to many disgruntled bloggers there? You will get some traction.

As for me, I am going to a delegate selection meeting tonight for the LPC(0) AGM.
