General Peter Pace reads from
the GOP hymnal:
“I believe that homosexual acts between individuals are immoral, and that we should not condone immoral acts.”... In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Pace also compared homosexuality to adultery. He claimed that the military should “not tolerate” homosexuality just as it rejects “military members who sleep with other military members’ wives.”

Although comments like these make me feel a little embarrassed for the speaker, I also realize that I am from different generation.
My sister is gay, and one of my grandmother's has a huge problem with that, and, as much as it would be nice for her to keep her problems to herself, she feels she must debate/discuss/let known her objections. She is not a mean or evil lady, these are the values she was brought up with, and those are not easy to change. Just as she perhaps felt the same way about her parents/grandparents views on Blacks or Catholics, and them on theirs about another group, and most importantly as my daughter will with me when in 60 years I am not ready to accept some concept, whatever it may be.
Just my thoughts.
Well, Pace isn't of your grandmother's generation. (I think.) He's a baby boomer. I don't really think it's age that's the determining factor here.
On the other hand, religion clearly is. Pace -- like much of the high-ranking US military -- is a devout Christian. Bully for him. He wants to believe that gays, Jews, Muslims, and unitarians are going to hell, that's fine for him. At least, I have no real interest in chasing down every last bigot in the world.
The problem is that he's taken his personal beliefs -- gays are bad -- and using it to justify a stupid, stupid law that has no equal in the rest of the industrialized world.
You're right, when they have a say in public policy where those views will directly affect you, you can't really just accept others' different point of views...
