Worse yet, he's for Kyoto

You know, if we have to have a Conservative government, could we at least have this one?
In his speech today to the UK Conservative Conference, party leader David Cameron opposed reductions in taxation, endorsed same-sex marriage, praised government-controlled healthcare as "one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century," omitted any words of praise for the British mission in Iraq, attacked Tony Blair for drawing too close to the United States, aligned himself with a more liberal approach to Britain's surging crime rates, urged the Anglican Church to admit non-Anglicans to church schools while endorsing more state funding for Muslim schools.
The difference between me and David Frum is that I see sanity, equality, and a just vision for society as a good thing.

If this was a move away from big-business neo-conservatism, and back towards proper conservatism (which is not redneck at all), Cameron would be a very interesting political development.

Instead, he's just trying to copy Blair and New Labour (who copied Thatcher and the Conservatives). It's all spin and tactics.

Britain's moving away from polar extremes (i.e. Old Labour promoting 0% unemployment vs. cut-throat Thatcher cuts by the Tories), with both main parties moving towards the centre and aiming to capture as many votes as possible. Quite similar to the brokerage system of politics that charcterized Canada - at least until our Tories went neo-con under Harper recently.

Cheers.
