Is there some minimal stupidity requirement to be a Republican?

The hell?
Last night, the CBS Evening News turned their broadcast over to a man named Brian Rohrbough, who lost his son during the Columbine massacre. Mr. Rohrbough proceeded to blame recent school shootings on: 1) the teaching of evolution, and 2) abortion.
Grief makes people do, and say, stupid fucking things. But CBS is not grieving for anyone. What made them put this man on national television?

You have hit the nail on the head with this observation, (and the aswer to your question is YES).

I was on the Western Standard blog site last night reading comments in reaction to the British military talking with the Taliban. The common right wing sentiment is this - 'we are losing in Afghanistan because of the weak kneed, Jack Layton, Taliban loving lefties in Canada who are not supporting our troops'.

In this era of internet, blogs and news talk radio formats, we, as a society, seem to have elevated 'uninformed opinion' to the same level and weight as 'informed opinion'. Hence we now have leaders like Harper and Bush with sidekicks like Kenney and Rumsfeldt. (God help us all)!

This is a GOP talking point going back to immediately post-Columbine. See Tom Delay:

``Our school systems teach the children that they are nothing but glorified apes who have evolutionized out of some primordial soup of mud,'' said House Republican Majority Whip Tom DeLay
