Who we?

I've been pretty tolerant of Chavez, but this is too much:
BANJUL (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called on Africa on Saturday to forge closer ties with Latin America to combat what he called a threat of U.S. hegemony....

"The world is threatened by the hegemony of the North American empire," said the former paratrooper, following speeches from African leaders which had criticized colonialism.
North American? What, does he think Mexico and Canada are fellow-travellers in the Empire? That's so not true. And on the day after Canada day, no less.

As we march in NAFTA lockstep with a bush-wannabe in Ottawa, what's so not true?

Or as we fight Bush's war for him in Afghanistan? Speaking of which, did you read Margolis in the Toronto Sun today? Great analysis.

As much as I am leary of Chavez's militarism, I'm not really all that concerned about him making remarks like this. I would personally agree with him anyways that we're nothing more than an American puppet state given our recent election of an extremely obedient prime minister who has gone out of his way to make continuous concession after concession to the US on any number of issues.
