Okay, this was funny:
WASHINGTON - One day after President Bush vowed to reduce America's dependence on Middle East oil by cutting imports from there 75 percent by 2025, his energy secretary and national economic adviser said Wednesday that the president didn't mean it literally.
But this is just
tragic:
The Energy Department will begin laying off researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in the next week or two because of cuts to its budget.
A veteran researcher said the staff had been told that the cuts would be concentrated among researchers in wind and biomass, which includes ethanol. Those are two of the technologies that Mr. Bush cited on Tuesday night as holding the promise to replace part of the nation's oil imports.
See, not only did he not mean it literally,
he didn't actually mean it at all. The good news, such as it is, is that Ethanol and Wind have probably progressed to the point that they can survive more or less without subsidy. But there's a huge difference between surviving and flourishing.

Nice find, John.
I can't help but wonder what goes throught he right wing mind when they see bush backpeddle on his big promise in the SOTU less than a day after making it.
Is he still "resolute"? Still "firm"? Or is he just a wanker who knows he can peddle whatever bullshit he wants to an unthinking mass of Rush Limbaugh drones?
I know what I'd choose.
