Boy, everybody seems to be excited about PMPM's remark about the not withstanding clause. Can't say I understand - the Feds have never used it anyway, and it's barely conceivable that the Feds ever will. And the few areas where it is conceivable, they're pretty ugly.
Oh, and if the US has the Social Security "third rail", then surely our constitution is ours.

Remivign s33 also removes it's use by the provinces, and governments like, gee, the conservatives!
The concept here is this: Liberal votes are slipping to the CPC. The CPC have stated a willingness to use the notwithstanding clause. PMPM is reminding all those liberals sliding to the CPC that they hate that clause and shouldn't gravitate to a party which is willing to use it.
As if we'd ever get through another constitutional conference. God, spare us!
Actually, he's not proposing to remove it for the provinces. But you hit the right point: constitutional conference. Guess how many times Canada has successfully amended its constitution? Once.
