"What the government is proposing is unacceptable," said Layton during a speech in Toronto. "There's no basis for our party to express confidence in this government."Except that this time, there's a twist - the Conservatives aren't baying at the duplicity and corruption of the Liberals:
Conservative Leader Stephen Harper, who spoke moments after Layton's speech, said he believes the NDP leader still hasn't made up his mind and is still negotiating with the Liberals.I'm not sure what to make of all this. After all, it looks like all we'll actually get is an election two months early. I don't see a huge benefit to that, nor do I see (more) irreparable harm being done to medicare in the interim.
"It's the same soap opera. We will continue to assume that Mr. Layton is still bargaining with the Liberal government," said Harper.
I also don't see what Jack thinks he can win in this game. I mean, I'll still vote for him and all, but there's nothing in the polls to show Canadians returning a significantly different parliament. I'd like to believe that Jack can pick up a few seats, but from where?

If you walk by Bay and Gerrard, you'll see a billboard by the National Citizen's Coalition (a Conservatives lobby group) with this picture.
I usually despise the propaganda they put up on that billboard, but this new board was actually pretty clever. I guess they're evolving from telling us blatant lies to telling us amusing blatant lies.
From where?
Probably a few from B.C. and Saskatchewan and maybe (but probably not) a few in Ontario. But I agree, there's no need for the NDP to be the grinch that stole Christmas.
