OTTAWA (CP) - The federal government will name a former energy industry executive from Alberta to manage its $1-billion Clean Fund, the biggest single element in its Kyoto implementation strategy, The Canadian Press has learned.I suppose it was too much to ask that someone whose expertise was in the environment might be asked to lead this. Still, I suppose that it's a good sign that the government is finally moving.
Allan Amey has worked in the oil, gas and electric sector for more than 20 years, and currently heads Climate Change Central, an agency created by Alberta Premier Ralph Klein, a long-time foe of the Kyoto accord.
The purpose of the Clean Fund is, in the government's words, "to stimulate cost-effective action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Canada."
