Ooh, Argument!

RP Says:
"Because of Republican incompetence, combined with their preexisting small-government ideology, tens of thousands of people are dead."

Also, because of Democrat incompetence, combined with their preexisting small-government ideology, tens of thousands of people are dead.

Seriously, I'm really concerned that the political response will place too much blame on Bush and Repugnicans. Yes, they deserve it. But so do the Dems. Just about every US federal politician should resign in disgrace over this.
I'm not sure I agree - at least not entirely. The Governor is a Democrat, sure, but the crucial response was going to come from the Feds no matter what. While Louisiana's own National Guard is overseas, most of the aid was going to have to come from other states nearby. This help was offered early, but other states' NGs need permission from Washington to move - and this permission was slow in arriving. At least three critical days passed before Washington allowed the Mississippi and Alabama NGs to move in.

As much as we can blame the Republicans for a) appointing crappy FEMA directors, b) cutting the funding for levee maintenance, and c) sending emergency response personnel to die in the desert, there's also plenty of far more specific actions they took that made things much much worse. And the Executive branch of the Government of the United States is 100% Republican.

Now, some Democrats certainly deserve to hang for this. But I don't think you could ever put "too much" blame on the Republican Party in general, and George W. Bush in particular.
