By The Way...

As predicted, the Commons passed the civil marriage bill last night.

But...

As WASN'T predicted, the sun rose the next day. The ground didn't open up to swallow me whole, nor did I behold a rider on a pale horse.

The funniest thing in the aftermath is hearing the Conservatives talk about how the Liberals will be "punished" by the electorate for this. That would require the Conservatives to make this an issue in the next election, and we all know how that will turn out - a Liberal sweep everywhere outside of Calgary.

Seriously. Last night was a great day for all Canadians, and we should all be proud.

What's really funny is that, to my understanding, Calgary (which after all is not only "Western" but also "urban") has a rather large gay population... so maybe this will even hurt the CPC cause there! (maybe...)

Nonetheless, perhaps we should all stop talking about what a dumb move it is for the CPC to keep fighting this battle heading into the next election. In that "one in a million" chance that someone in power with the Tories actually pays attention, they might actually change that strategy... and I think we all agree that if the Conservatives want to die on that hill we should all probably all just keep quiet and enjoy the (politically unwise) show!
