Shockingly, Bush Shows A Poor Grasp of History

So while on a trip to the Baltic, President Bush said that the United States was responsible for the Iron Curtain after World War II. Specifically, he said:

"We will not repeat the mistakes of other generations, appeasing or excusing tyranny, and sacrificing freedom in the vain pursuit of stability,"

referring to Roosevelt's "surrender" of Eastern Europe to Stalin.

Alright, I know it's hard for Americans to understand, but let's get this straight: You didn't win World War II. The Soviets were the force that crushed the Nazis in Europe. Yes, you owe your existence to Communism. Suck it up. But surely, you might say, the Pacific War was an unquestioned American triumph? Not quite. The bulk of the Imperial Japanese Army stayed in China - most Japanese soldiers never saw combat with the Americans. Specifically, the actions of the Chinese Communists kept the Japanese quite busy thank you. If responsibility for the new international order post-1945 had been given to those who had paid the highest price in blood, we'd all be celebrating Stalin Day, with Chairman Mao day coming up in August.

So remember, if you like freedom, thank a Communist!

More interesting is Bush's attempt to smear Roosevelt and Truman's legacy of victory in World War II - by any definition, those two presidents were giants, especially compared to the current interloper. Does it grate on Bush's nerves that a cripple was able to "win" a war against the REAL Axis of Evil, but Bush can barely manage to lose a war with dignity?
