Somedays I Love University

Things I hear in class:

Intelligent questions like "But, how could he so radically change the Federal system without a constitutional ammendment?" (In reference to Vladimir Putin.)

or

"How are the regional districts drawn up? Are they deliberately drawn up to mix Republics and Autonomous Regions?"

If this is meaningless to you, don't worry - the point is just that, in my Russia class I have the pleasure of a truly intelligent, informed debate. Contrast that with things I hear outside class:

"So, I lift up the cushion, and there's, like, bags of pot! BAGS!"

and this:

"How do you know he was cheating on you? Did you see him making out with someone?"
"No. But I just know, okay?"

I especially love that "I just know" statement. Because that's what we go to University to learn - how to know things with zero evidence. Still, I think it's great that, in less than five minutes time I can go from discussing the constitutional structure of the Russian Federation to possibly witnessing a crime. Whee!
