Paul Krugman
...has an excellent column in the NYT today. (Again, login required.) Basically, he's calling out Alan Greenspan, who has been treated with reverence for far too long. The guy basically tried to strangle Clinton's presidency early on, jacked up interest rates when Bill was running for reelection, spent the entire eight years talking about how the US needed a balanced budget, jacked up interest rates again when Gore ran for the White House, and then when Bush started dynamiting the Federal budget, Greenspan sat back and smiled. The man is a hack, whose only contribution to the economy of the 1990s was sitting there while real people (mainly Democrats) did the hard work.
