So... Rogers and BellGlobemedia are teaming up against CBC to get the broadcast rights for the 2010 and 2012 Olympics.
How long after this happens will we see a National Post editorial talking about the triumph of the market? Nevermind that these are essentially Canada's two largest media monopolies, and the "free market" has as much to do with Bell's monopoly control over phone lines as Rogers has to do with quality service...
Canada's policy of creating "national champions" (essentially, building large monopolies that can compete internationally) is backfiring, I think. All we've done is empower corporations which are fundamentally opposed to the very idea of Canada. Not on this issue particularly, but in the wider context. So.. yay us!
