Modest Mouse's Good News for People Who Love Bad News
Proviso: I haven't listened to the whole album yet. Still, what's the big deal? I mean, "Float On" is catchy and all, but I've heard so much about it, I was kind of disappointed.
Well, it is a pretty good album. It's kinda eclectic while remaining cohesive. They've got a nice Tom Waits-y vibe going on with a few songs too, which I like.
It is overhyped though, but I think one of the reasons is because Modest Mouse has been a cult favourite for years now (this is their 4th or 5th album) but have finally made it big. A lot of their fans are thrilled they've finally caught on after toiling in (relative) obscurity for so long. Also MM is riding a wave of so-called 'indie' rock popularity which includes bands like Franz Ferdinand, The Walkmen, The Fiery Furnaces, The Arcade Fire, the 2nd Interpol album and the Pixies reunion.
